Gaynor Pates

Membership Manager

Gaynor joined the WRA in April 2025 as Membership Manager, having recently worked for the Trade Association Forum, both as Chair and on the delivery team, enabling best practice sharing and improving services for UK trade association members. She received an award in 2024 for her outstanding contribution.

As Operations Director until 2024, Gaynor spent almost a decade developing the Railway Industry Association’s membership and events. Prior to this she managed sales operations and strategic commercial partnerships in a large global venture capital-backed company.

Her career started with a degree in Health & Safety at the MOD’s research agency, before joining the Rail Safety & Standards Board, to manage the cross-industry programme to improve operational safety following the Ladbroke Grove rail disaster, leading a culture change for front-line safety critical staff. Gaynor later supported development of the industry’s technology and innovation strategy, designing and delivering multi stakeholder research.

In 2012, she took voluntary redundancy, conceiving and delivering an innovative ‘coworking and crèche’ social enterprise model, gaining local authority social funding, and media attention.
