CIWM has today (June 11th) announced the election of WRA Board Member Vicki Hughes as Junior Vice President. The role of Junior Vice President is the first step in the journey to becoming CIWM President, a process that usually takes three years.

Vicki will formally take over the role from David Greenfield, who will become Senior Vice President, at the presidential inauguration in June this year.

Vicki is a Trustee and Fellow of CIWM, having first joined the Board in 2019.  With over 35 years’ experience in sales, marketing and business development, Vicki spent nearly 20 years at the forefront of wood recycling in the UK, holding senior positions at Hadfield Wood Recyclers and, more latterly, Enva. She is also a Board member and Technical Lead at the Wood Recyclers Association (WRA).

Commenting on her election, Vicki said: “I’m thrilled and very grateful to have been elected to this role and can’t wait to start working as part of the Presidential team.

“I am particularly looking forward to championing two key initiatives which I focused on during the election process. The first of these is creating additional value to current CIWM members through improved communication and signposting of the services and support available to them. Secondly, I am keen to showcase the amazing and diverse career opportunities that exist in our sector to a far wider and more diverse audience.

“Both initiatives will, I believe, add value for members and ultimately the whole sector by improving individual knowledge and engagement.”

CIWM CEO, Sarah Poulter, also commented saying: “I am excited to welcome Vicki to the role of Junior Vice President (elect) and I look forward to supporting her journey to becoming CIWM President. Vicki is a highly valued member of our Board of Trustees and has played a key role in the continued development and growth of the Institution including our work around EDI and chairing the Volunteer Strategy Steering group.”

Applicants for the Junior Vice President role must be CIWM Fellows and must submit a personal statement and have support from either 3 CIWM Trustees (General Councillors) or their CIWM Centre Council. They are then invited to present to the CIWM Members’ Council in Spring, where the Junior Vice President is appointed by ballot of Members’ Council Representatives.

In addition to Vicki’s appointment CIWM has also offered new terms to three existing Trustees, Duncan Simpson, Anna Willetts and Liz Parkes.
