WRA Board Member Vicki Hughes has been named on the first Women in Trade Associations (WiTA) Outstanding Member Contribution List.
Announced on Friday (March 8) to coincide with International Women’s Day, the 2024 List celebrates inspirational women who contribute to their trade association via voluntary roles to deliver real impact for the sector they represent.
Vicki has worked as a tireless champion for the wood recycling sector, working on many areas of critical importance to WRA members such as Fire Prevention Plans and more recently the WRA’s work on Waste Wood Classification.
A prominent figure in the industry for over 20 years, she was the first woman to be elected to the WRA Board in 2022 and has been a strong advocate for women in the industry. She is also managing director of consultancy McPhee Associates and a CIWM Board Trustee and Fellow.
The Outstanding Member Contribution List was compiled by the Trade Association Forum, the CBI and the FSB and was launched alongside the second Women In Trade Associations Powerlist.
Rain Newton-Smith, CBI Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted to bring the CBI, FSB and TAF together to champion the role of women in trade associations, celebrate their achievements and encourage the next generation of women into the association sector.”
Vicki said: “It is an honour to be recognised for my work for the WRA and to be listed alongside such an inspirational group of women. I have seen the wood recycling industry and the WRA go from strength to strength and it has been a pleasure to be part of that journey.”
WRA chair Richard Coulson said: “We are very lucky to have Vicki on our Board, particularly as she is willing to give up so much of her own time to develop the sector for the benefit of others. She has been invaluable in bringing her knowledge of how waste wood processing works on the ground to our waste wood classification work and her enthusiasm and passion for the industry continues to shine through.”
